Frankly, Mr. Shankly
Not dead, just busy. I’ve managed to learn a lot more about theme and how to use it in story construction, so I’m going back and rewriting a few works of mine that have shown promise. These are short stories and will take me away from the novel for a bit, but I’m considering it good practice. For me, this new understanding of theme is a game changer. I’d talk about it more, but I want to feel I have a solid grasp of it before attempting to talk it out. So I’ll be busy writing for a while—which is good, that’s what I’m supposed to do. Oh, I also need to update my submissions, but I can’t do that today. I’ll get to that this weekend. No sales to report. Mostly just rejections. That’s just the way it goes.
SM-PR-028 Zombie Attack Preparedness Plan
Approved by: Georgina Romero Approved 05/04/09
This procedure is current and approved when viewed on-line. The procedure becomes uncontrolled when printed. Uncontrolled procedures can not be used for production or performance of duties. See Procedure QS-PR-004 Document Control Process for instructions on changing this procedure. Consult section 5.0 Document History for changes. Minor changes are indicated in red.
1.0 Purpose
To establish a zombie attack preparedness plan in the event of any reanimation of the dead.
2.0 Scope
It is the policy of Corelan Systems, Inc. to provide a safe working environment to all employees and continue the safe operation of our day-to-day business in the event of any zombie outbreak. This policy applies to all employees – alive and dead.
3.0 Responsibility and Authority
The Human Resources Department Head is responsible for the final review and approval of the procedure. The Human Resources Department Head is also responsible for the control of this procedure. All employees will follow this procedure. Managers will monitor their employees for compliance with this procedure.
4.0 Detailed Requirements/Procedure
4.1 Pre-Zombie Attack Planning
4.1.1 The Director of Human Resources is the Corelan Apocalypse Planning Coordinator. This position will be the focal point for all internal communications and will coordinate with external experts such as the World Health Organization (WHO), the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) or other national health organizations, and the International SOS. The Director of Human Resources is responsible for implementing Corelan’s Apocalypse Preparedness Policies and Guidelines.
4.2 Top Secret Military Chemicals Disposal Practices
4.2.1 It is recommended that communication and training at all Corelan locations be provided to employees regarding Secret Military Chemicals Disposal practices to prevent the spread of zombification.
4.2.2 Secret Military Chemicals Disposal disposal procedures should be implemented to ensure safe disposal of all items potentially contaminated.
4.2.3 Employees should be reminded to adhere to good Secret Military Chemicals Disposal practices in the workplace. Key preventive zombie supplies that should be used during a zombie outbreak are: A Cricket Bat, sawed off shotgun, chainsaw, or any device capable of removing a zombie’s head from its body.
4.2.4 Employees will be provided with a self-screening form (FORM – SMS-FM-1006) to assist them with monitoring their health status. Daily, voluntary, home monitoring by the employee will be mandatory—we will know if you are a zombie.
4.3 Domestic/International business travel is discouraged to an affected City, Country or Region.
4.4 Employees are advised not to travel to affected cities, countries or regions for vacations or holidays.
4.5 Corelan will prohibit employees and visitors from entering the locations if they are found, suspected or reported to have been bitten or attacked by a zombie.
4.6 Corelan’s standard Attendance policy will apply if time away from work is required unless otherwise specified by government regulations.
4.7 Confirmed or Suspected Cases of zombie Outbreak
4.7.1 If confirmation is received that an employee is infected with zombification, the employee will be terminated quickly and painlessly—after all, you are a zombie.
4.7.2 If a confirmed case of zombification is discovered in a Corelan location, any co-worker who develops undead like symptoms must remain away from work until someone visits with the military.
4.7.3 If an employee has had recent close contact (having cared for, lived with, or had direct contact with a zombie) with a person who has been diagnosed with an identified zombification, the employee will be required not to report to work until the individual with whom they have had close contact has been properly dispatched by government officials.
4.8 The Company reserves the right to modify, amend, suspend, or terminate this policy, its standard practices, and its administrative procedures at any time, at its sole discretion.
